Business Intelligence Analysis

We Visualize... And then Materialize

Business Intelligence (BI) Analysis goes beyond ad hoc reporting to an advanced level of interaction with information, using more sophisticated techniques and tools. Be sure to revisit this site as we add information.

  • Dashboards

PPMO is using Tableau as the primary dashboard and report prototyping tool, as we explore the value this approach can provide the higher education setting. If you would like to explore how Technology Solutions PPMO utilizes this area with us or are interested in a demonstration, please contact our Business Intelligence Analyst.

Information on the U of I Tableau environment* including publishing dashboards is available here.

For more information on Dashboards, visit the following:

*This is not a service of Technology Solutions PPMO. AITS Decision Support manages Tableau Server Service across the U of I System.

  • OLAP Cubes

A “cube” or data cube is an advanced tool for data analysis that provides fast and easy data manipulation from multiple perspectives. However, the true nature of a data cube is multi-dimensional.

“OLAP” is an acronym for On-Line Analytical Processing. While OLTP tools are very powerful and effective for reports, they are very slow when an entire database or data collection must be summarized. OLAP performs much better in that arena. As of today, PPMO is creating new daily and event-based reports utilizing Analytics section in TeamDynamix.

Historically, Technology Solutions PPMO utilized multiple Universes in SAP Business Objects made available by AITS Decision Support to analyze project data in the former Clarity PPM Data Warehouse on EDDIE.
